Are There Differences Between Sworn Translators and Regular Translators?
Customers may assume that there is no difference between good translators. Professional translators speak languages perfectly; they have stellar grammar skills; they have experience and expertise; and they are familiar with a wide range of subjects. Customers believe that when they need the translation of an official document, any reputable translator can help them.
However, some translators can provide certified translations that authorities will accept, while others cannot.
Some customers think that only sworn translators can give accurate, authentic translations. It is not necessarily true. There are experienced, gifted translators who are not sworn translators. They can deal with several types of documents. However, only sworn translators can translate official documents. When a sworn translator provides a translation, legal professionals accept the quality of the translation and the authenticity of the document.
Differences between sworn translators and regular translators depend on where you live. In the United States, translators do not have federate or state license or certification to deal with official documents. The American Translators Association provides certifications in language pairs. ADA-certified translators have to specify in which languages they translate. One might be a certified translator in Italian to English, however, probably they are not certified in English to Italian.
Sworn Translators vs. Regular Translators
In many countries, sworn translators are required to have a license or certification. These certifications are valuable in the market or in the translator community, since they prove that the sworn translator can translate a document for official use. If a sworn translator changes the contents of a document on purpose, or the contents are flawed because of the translator’s negligence, the translator shall be held accountable.
Regular translators – those who are not certified translators – cannot provide translations that public authorities accept as official documents. If you need a translation of a document and you use the services of a regular translator, authorities will not accept your translation as an authentic document.
Differences between Sworn Translation Pricing and Regular Translation One
Sworn translation services cost more than regular translation services, since sworn translators are professionals who can deal with official documents in a timely manner.
Due to the higher costs, customers may turn to regular translators when they want to get an ordinary text translated. However, when they need translations of formal documents that goes to authorities, they must purchase the services of a sworn translator.
